12-Steps in Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta will be hosting a convention celebrating sobriety this month. This is the 15th gathering of the 12-Step program to be held in Puerto Vallarta. Though this is an English language event, anyone is invited to participate, and many locals find it refreshing and inspirational. Onsite registration will be available at the Marina Vallarta Westin Hotel, which is the chosen site for the convention this year. The theme is Happy Joyous & Free, making Puerto Vallarta a perfect place to celebrate.
Sobriety Under the Sun (SUS) conferences are popular annual social gatherings for members of AA and Al-Anon. Encouraging constant revitalization, attendants have the opportunity to listen to well seasoned speakers who provide inspiration for those in the recovery process. Upwards of 400 guests will be attending this year, staying throughout Puerto Vallarta, with the Westin hosting the majority. This is a great influx of people who will take back memories of our town, seen through the eyes of clear-headedness. They will find Puerto Vallarta a welcome place with many of our own 12-Step groups, several who are responsible for bringing this event to our shores.
Beach meetings are popular, where guests are able to mingle, get acquainted and meet conference speakers and leaders. The days start as early as 7 am and doesn’t end until a final meeting at 10 pm. Workshops are available, covering subjects as Unity, Service and Recovery; Relationships in Recovery. Therapeutic yoga and meditation are both a focus of the weekend, and groups embracing the LGBT community are available. A sunset banquet and ice cream social are the highlights of Saturday evening.
Most guests will stay beyond the convention dates and take in the sites of Puerto Vallarta. To start them out, an all-day sober cruise has been arranged for Monday, January 23, starting at 9:30 am, at the Cruise Ship Marina, returning to the mainland at 6 pm. We highly recommend this adventure; activities like snorkeling and swimming will be available and there are sure to be dolphin and whale sightings as they sail throughout the Bay of Banderas.
We wish for our 12-Step guests a Happy and Joyous vacation in Puerto Vallarta and hope they feel Free to enjoy all the fabulous venues we have to offer. More information is available at aapvconvention.com
