It is very easy to get around Puerto Vallarta by car. Taxis are everywhere and are very inexpensive. Public transportation is safe, cheap and easy.
TAXIS - Local Taxis do not have meters, instead they have set rates per zone. Taxis constantly pass by on the main streets. Within the downtown area the rate is usually $30-40 pesos. The staff will be happy to call a taxi for you for pick up at the villa. Taxi drivers are notorious for not having change; when possible try to be prepared with exact change or small bills.
Taxi stands with telephones to order pick up service:
Sitio 5 – Dreams Hotel – 221-5368
Sitio 9-located on the South Side of Old Town, corner of Constitution and Francisco I. Madero, 223-2806
Sitio 4-located near Los Muertos beach, Olas Altas and Rodolfo Gomez, 223-2285
PRIVATE DRIVER – We can set up private transport service with a reliable driver in an air conditioned suburban or sedan.
BUS-The green and blue bus from town to Mismaloya and Boca de Tomatlan (last cove on the bay accessible by car) runs every 10 mins, cost $6 pesos. The bus stop in town is at the corner of Insurgentes and Basilio Badillo in front of the “SIX” convenience store, where the bus turns right onto the highway to Mismaloya/Conchas Chinas. Boca de Tomatlan is the end of the line, the bus turns around and heads back to Puerto Vallarta. From Boca de Tomatlan you can pay for a water taxi to take you to any of the wonderful beaches on the south shore only accessible by boat such as Las Animas, Quimixto, and Yelapa.
CAR RENTAL – you must be over 21 years of age and have a credit card to rent a car. Rate start at about $50 USD / day. You can find great deals on the internet.
WATER TAXIS – only in Vallarta! Catch the water taxi every morning at 10 am from the Los Muertos Beach pier for points south only accessible by boat. Well worth the trip just to see the rugged jungle coastline from the water. See more under Beaches in the Learn More About Vallarta section.
