The tropical atmosphere diffuses an almost surreal hue from the setting sun, reflecting off the white stucco buildings, bathing the town in pink and gold. The result is simply awe inspiring. Many movies have been filmed here because of this unique quality of light, found especially at the “golden hour” of sunset….

Puerto Vallarta is unique in its architecture. The founding city fathers wanted to maintain the Old World charm of this quaint Mexican village by setting standards for building codes. In more recent history, new big city developers have attempted to bring a more contemporary “high rise” look to Vallarta’s profile, but locals and repeat visitors prefer Puerto Vallarta’s more traditional architectural style; low density structures that use lots of organic materials and are integrated into the surrounding landscape. This “true” Vallarta style is found in the winding cobblestone streets of Old Town, lined with Ficus and Banyan trees, white stucco houses, old hacienda style doors, antique wrought iron windows, pitched red tile roofs, stairs that climb up pedestrian-only streets and hidden alleyways – an enchanting setting not found in many resort towns. Combined with the lush vegetation, the surrounding tropical rain forest and dramatic Sierra Madre mountains, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Around every corner is a perfect photo op. |
