Puerto Vallarta: Whats the Most Famous Part?

The Arches on the Malecón

Everyone loves the Arches on the Malecón in Puerto Vallarta, a major icon of the city. It’s a fabulous place to take photos of sunsets, family shots and lovers’ meeting place. People in Puerto Vallarta are familiar with this location and refer to it by its Spanish name Los Arcos, which is also what the huge outcropping offshore of Mismaloya is called. It’s not completely wild to think they bear the same name and can be seen in alignment for perfect photo ops. The arches resemble the rocks in many ways. They both signify a welcome to the bay, along with their symbol of strength and fortitude. The concerts and events held there are always free and well attended. We have seen magical dance presentations at Los Arcos, theater productions, puppet shows, children’s school functions and demonstrations, both general and political. We were delighted to take part in an original flash-mob a handful of years ago with many of our friends and local celebrities in Puerto Vallarta.

The original arches were brought from a hacienda in Guadalajara and assembled on the Malecón many years ago. In October of 2002, much to the dismay of Puerto Vallarta and her inhabitants, Los Arcos were destroyed by Hurricane Kena. The replicas that rebuilt to replace them were one of the first things constructed on the Malecón in the efforts to quickly rebuild and restore.

The Malecón has a major portion open to pedestrians only, which has increased family and friendly crowds around Los Arcos. Gatherings have expanded and are consistently busy during evenings when locals, residents and tourists take the opportunity to stroll and catch the ocean breezes. We love have a stroll with Pup and have a nibble to eat. Everything from creamy corn-on-the-cob to cotton candy to crepes are available in the area and there are vendors eager to share their delicious wares. Be sure to make this one of your new habits in Puerto Vallarta.

Que es cómo es.
